Daniel Buchbinder - Co-funder & General Director
danielDaniel spent many years in the consumer goods industry as a marketing executive for a leading global health and beauty company. Daniel has more than ten years of experience in marketing and strategy in the private sector, as well as extensive experience in the public and civil sector. Since his arrival in Guatemala in 2010, Daniel has played a key role in growing businesses and launching social ventures throughout Central America and Mexico. Daniel received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM), a master's degree in environmental geography from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and a master's in environmental technology with a specialization in business and environment from Imperial College London funded by the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACyT). Daniel is motivated by a desire to challenge the status quo and support the multitude of possibilities for generating change that arise when people feel truly empowered.



Ana Gabriela Chinchilla - Business Development Manager
20170726_113207Prior to joining Alterna, Ana Gabriela spent five years in the financial sector and the Ministry of Economy, working on projects that strengthened MIPYMES in Guatemala. She has also worked as a researcher and data analyst for organizations in Guatemala and France, as well as a lecturer in the Faculties of Economics and International Relations at Universidad Francisco Marroquín. As the manager of Business Development at ​​Alterna, Ana Gabriela is responsible for developing and managing alliances to address new challenges and socio-economic needs. She holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Montpellier and a master's degree in quantitative economics from the University of Lyon in France.



Brooke Latham - FLII CA&C & Special Projects Coordinator
20170726_112946Brooke joined Alterna in June 2016 as a fellow. Her interest in social entrepreneurship began by working for a social enterprise in Uganda in 2015. Prior to Alterna, she worked with the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship in the Silicon Valley. She is a graduate of Santa Clara University and holds a degree in Political Science and Islamic Studies. Brooke manages Alterna's mentorship program, opportunities for entrepreneurs and is the coordinator of the Latin American Impact Investing Forum for Central America and the Caribbean (FLII CA&C).







Javier Rossi - Economic Analyst
20170726_112703Javier has built his career in both the food and shipping industries. He has vast experience as a buyer for an international food chain, and also managed logistics and finances for one of the largest shipping companies in the world. At Alterna, Javier conducts economic research in the area of business development to drive the implementation of innovative and impactful initiatives. He holds a bachelor's degree in econometrics from the University of Lyon Lumière II and holds a master's degree in quantitative economics, transport and logistics from the University of Montpellier I.





Sabrina Vega - Programs Officer
20170726_113115Sabrina has developed her career at international nonprofit organizations. In Nicaragua, she worked as the director of training and volunteering for TECHO – Nicaragua. She specializes in applied research related to informal settlements, planning, logistics, and coordination. As director for TECHO – Guatemala, she managed the first informal settlement census carried out by the organization. She previously participated in research teams studying the social and territorial risks of settlements, and has taught architecture. At Alterna, Sabrina serves as a program officer for the coordination and execution of certain programs within the organization. She has a degree in architecture.





Tyler Hollenbach - Cultivation Manager
TYLERTyler has extensive experience in finance and strategic planning due to several years of work at Deloitte. Throughout his career, Tyler has focused on evaluating business processes, development, and continuous improvement. At Alterna, Tyler leads the design and implementation of business solutions for entrepreneurs in the cultivation program, ensuring first-rate support for the network's entrepreneurs.







John Sebesta - Cultivation Coordinator
20170726_112803John built his professional career in the private sector, where he has extensive experience in both financial and business strategy. He previously served as a business manager for international programs, leading to the development of proposals for numerous international clients. At Alterna, John is designing, implementing, and validating the strategies, materials, tools, and activities to improve the financial outlook of Alterna's cultivation clients. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from New Mexico State University and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from Southern Methodist University.





Nayara Borges - Impact Phase Coordinator
NAYARANayara worked for 5 years at Amana-Key, a Brazilian consulting and executive education company specializing in radical innovation, strategy, management, and leadership, where she supported consulting processes for complex organizations and also led a communication agency incubated within the business. Independently, she spent 2 years providing support and mentorship to start-up ventures in Brazil. Nayara also worked in India for the marketing and business development departments of an Indian chemical company. She was the local senior vice president of talent management at AIESEC. At Alterna, Nayara is the cultivation coordinator, and is responsible for designing and facilitating cultivation programs as well as working with advanced stage entrepreneurs to design tailor-made business solutions and tools to support their growth. Nayara holds a bacher’s degree in pharmaceutical biochemistry from the University of São Paulo and a master's degree in globalization, culture, and training in facilitation and conflict mediation by the Instituto Ecosocial.



Mária Rosal - Inclusion Phase Coordinator
20170726_113002Maria has always worked in the third sector. Her prior professional experience includes consulting and volunteer work with various NGOs in both Spain and Guatemala. She also worked as a consultant at Momentum Project, a social entrepreneurship program coordinated jointly by Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, ESADE, and PwC. At Alterna, Maria coordinates cultivation efforts for early-stage entrepreneurs. She has a bachelor’s in business administration and management from ESADE, and holds a master's in marketing from the same university.






Juan Manuel Ventura - Cultivation Officer
20170726_112921Juan Manuel has a degree in english and international commerce from the Universidad Mesoamericana, and has completed technical coursework at ESI Business School in the management of SMEs. He previously worked as an advisor for internal management and the creation of sustainable business plans at the organization ASOVID, with the objective of obtaining investment for young entrepreneurs through the program 'yo también soy empresario.’ Juan Manuel joined Alterna as a fellow in 2015, supporting processes related to information gathering, event development, and cultivation workshops. He is currently a member of the Alterna Cultivation team.





Inès Mazas - Platform Manager
20170726_113133Inès brings to Alterna many years of experience working in community empowerment and social enterprises in Central America. She served as the Guatemala Country Manager for Community Empowerment Solutions, where she worked as a strategic and financial consultant for organizations such as Hystra and Accenture. Inès has developed a deep understanding of social enterprise strategy, program execution and evaluation, contextualized organizational capacity building, best practices in technical assistance, human resources expertise, and social impact measurement. At Alterna, Inès focuses on developing services and resources for growth (i.e. mentoring, investing, ecosystem activation events). She also oversees the monitoring and evaluation activities of Alterna, the human talent strategy, and incorporates industry-leading aspects of social innovation. Inès holds a master's in business administration and management from ESSEC Business School and a degree in public policy and development from Paris Descartes University.



Zinder García - Platform Coordinator
IMG_5949Zinder has worked for several private organizations in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, with a focus on projects related to business administration, art, and culture. In recent years, she has developed her expertise in organizing and managing events designed to foster greater connections and opportunities for social entrepreneurs. Zinder graduated from the Universidad Rafael Landivar with a bachelor’s in business administration. She was a member of the Scout Association of Guatemala for more than 10 years, and has participated in the Scout program and served as a facilitator on the training team for the Western region. Her professional interests have led her to become involved with projects with a social mission that contribute to sustainable development and wellbeing, which is why she joined the Alterna team.



Jasmin Bemmelen - Fellowship Program Associate
20170726_112740Jasmin has worked at NGOs in Indonesia, various social institutions, and as a management consultant with clients across the world (i.e. England, France, Germany, Belgium, USA, and South Africa). Her passion for new cultures and languages is what brought her to Central America. At Alterna, Jasmin manages the fellowship and human talent programs. She holds a master's degree in industrial psychology from the University of Belgium.







David Figueroa - Communication Manager
20170726_113147David has professional expertise in the educational, pharmaceutical, and international non-profit sectors. He previously managed the marketing department of ​​one of the largest universities in Guatemala and served as regional advertising manager for a well-known multinational pharmaceutical laboratory, with a purview that included all of Central America and the Dominican Republic. In Alterna, David is the director of ​​communications and marketing. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing with an emphasis in advertising from the Universidad Rafael Landívar in Guatemala and a master's degree in strategic management with an emphasis in international business from the Universidad Santa María La Antigua in Panama.





Fabricio Gálvez - Communication and Social Media Coordinator

He previously worked as a regional communications analyst for a multinational corporation, supporting activties in corporate sustainability and marketing throughout Central America. At Alterna, Fabricio serves as a communication and marketing coordinator. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing with an emphasis in advertising from the Rafael Landívar University of Guatemala, and has completed a series of courses on strategic management, culture, identity, and corporate values at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas in Spain.
